Facial Cupping

Facial Cupping

Facial cupping is an easy, inexpensive tool to instantly brighten and plump up your skin! Right now here in Canada it is Winter. Colder and drier air means a duller, gray complexion.  I've talked about how hydration and healthy fats can make a difference internally but what about externally.  Peels, as mentioned in this blog post, and cupping can be a nice addition to a winter routine to increase circulation and improve that glow!

Over the last few years, this technique was a simple addition for me as a practitioner, as I had already been doing cupping for musculoskeletal concerns alongside acupuncture since 2003.

You may have heard of it: Qi, energy, life force.  We need QI to move.  This is the beautiful thing about not only facial cupping but the other techniques I use on patients and myself.  We are working WITH the body. We are working to stimulate your skin to make collagen and elastin. We are waking up the skin and the muscles through improved circulation!  We have 43 muscles in our face that need to move and facial cupping can help.

When you suction your facial cup, blood moves to the surface of your skin. This increased circulation encourages new blood vessels to form. It creates a small mini-trauma (similar to micro needling) which stimulates a healing process to occur.  More blood flow means more collagen production and the skin cells are encouraged to reproduce.

Facial cupping also stimulates your lymphatic system, your waste removal system: a complex system of vessels that need movement and muscle action to work effectively.  Your skin will feel and look more plump and begin to glow with just a consistent 5-10 minute routine!

Facial cupping is also one of the demo videos in the Youthful Glowing Skin Program.

Your skin barrier is that top protective layer of your skin that keeps that good (water and oils) in and the bad (pathogens and UV) out.  It protects the tissues and keeps our skin looking healthy and dewy

Micro-needling for Acne Scars
Micro-needling for Acne Scars

Micro-needling is a procedure that use tiny needles to create injury to the skin to trigger the skin's own healing response.  With this comes the production of collagen, as it plays an important role in the healing process.   By creating trauma the skin is essentially tricked into regeneration.
